Butte County Behavioral Health: Laura’s Law/Assisted Outpatient Treatment

Laura's Law is a tool to compel severely mentally ill into treatment. Many in the community, including us, have pushed for it's adoption.

The county feels the program is too costly, while failing to address the needs of the people who need it the most. For instance, to be a candidate for the program, it requires that folks have been hospitalized at least 2x in the past 3 years for grave disability, danger to self, or others and/or he has had an act/threat/attempt of violence to self or others within the past 4 years. Those requirements exclude many folks in our community who have not been hospitalized or threatened violence but nonetheless need serious help.

The county is holding two meetings to address questions about Laura's law and talk about potential alternatives. We hope you will join us!
