I had the good fortune of finding frost on my car when I left my warm house this morning.
I canโt help but think of all those who slept out in the cold without this same privilege.

The ten rooms that the Torres Shelter was able to reserve for the two week quarantine to transfer people in are all full.
Camping anywhere in the city remains illegal. ๐ป๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐.

The one thing they accomplished Tuesday evening (and this was truly great news) was to approve directing CDBG funding for CHAT to purchase/lease a motel, which would allow them to house some people, but will still likely take months.
Safe Parking was shot down.
Support for the BMX location was tepid at best โ they agreed to allow exploration of options for the site to continue (saying the only reason they did was because it would come back before council again), but not to approve any city funding for it, even with the offer from an anonymous donor to pay $300,000 of the $600,000 needed for part of that project. At best, assuming this project comes back as privately funded (or funded through the CoC, which could take 9 months to a year) ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฐ๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฏ๐๐, it is likely a year out.

I kid you not. Faced with a humanitarian crisis on our streets (and on the streets of cities nationwide, lest you think it is only here), she wants to retrofit the council chambers. But then we knew that when she was running; she showed a stunning lack of understanding or empathy for those on our streets.

Thatโs about it. There arenโt many more options for us to support people right now than there are options for places for them to go.
