Hope

The new administration has a lot of work ahead, but today was a moment of respite, a chance to take a deep breath and hope for better days ahead.

While all administrations bear with them the hopes and dreams of millions of Americans, the swearing in of Vice President Kamala Harris held special significance for so many Americans. The first female Vice President also “became the first Black person and the first person of South Asian descent to hold an office that has been previously occupied solely by White men.” (Read the full story here.)

Amanda Gorman stunned and moved us with her poem, “The Hill We Climb,” and President Biden’s remarks sounded, well, presidential, a breath of fresh air in and of itself.

As well, “Biden asked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to extend the federal moratorium on evictions until at least the end of March.” This action may have an outsized impact in the North State, where so many were only a paycheck away from landing on our streets before the pandemic, and have been out of work for months.

So we’re taking a deep breath today and allowing ourselves a moment of hope. We hope you are too.
