No on the Newsom Recall
𝐕𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐍𝐎 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥!
Stand Up for Chico is a hyper-local organization, and by and large we've tried to steer clear of weighing in on broader political issues. But the reality is that state and district elections do directly affect our community, and with that in mind we want to take a moment to talk about the recall.
The fact that this recall has ties to QAnon, anti-vaxxers and extremist militia groups like the Proud Boys and the Three Percenters should tell you all you need to know.
For those wanting a deeper dive into some of these things, fact check here
The candidates to replace Newsom are equally alarming. Larry Elder, good friend to our (thank the Lord) former President Trump, says he will immediately suspend mask and vaccine mandates. And as governor, he can.
𝐋𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚, 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐦 𝐰𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐳𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥.
Is he f*cking kidding?
Nope.
Does he really believe in this drivel? Or is he doing what Republicans do best: trying to woo his far-right base to take power during the biggest crises imaginable?
We can’t afford to have far-right conspiracy-theorists controlling our state.
Whether you agree with everything Newsom has or hasn’t done so far, the alternatives are horrifying. We need to defeat the power grab. Period.
Newsom’s budget this year has $100 billion in poverty-targeting initiatives for housing, debt relief, and broadband. He expanded Medi-Cal in California. He wants to spend even more on education.
And climate change? Newsom addresses it with budget allotments for fire suppression, clean vehicles, and carbon sequestration in agricultural practices.
And despite the bogus, whacko-partisan hackery of James Gallagher, the drought is far, far from Newsom or any one leader’s fault. Get real. If you think for one minute--one second--that Elder, or any of the other candidates are going to fix it… well, we don’t know what to tell you.
Except to stay tuned for SUFC’s Fact-Check Friday this week.
We need to KEEP GAVIN NEWSOM IN OFFICE. It's really that simple. He knows how real climate change is. He knows solutions exist and that they can be put into action. As the smoke and ash once again rains down on Butte County it couldn't be clearer that we can't afford a science-denier running our state.
Newsom also knows that vaccines and masks save lives; and yes, we can save lives and grow our economy, which is exactly what we've done in the past year.
You should already have your ballot - if not, you can track it here
You can still register to vote through August 30th and have a ballot mailed to you
You can also register right up to the day of the election. If you register online after August 30th, you will need to go to a voter assistance center to get your ballot. As well, you can register and vote on the same day at a voter assistance center. We'll share locations with you when we get closer to the date.
