Amazing people of Chico: Chico DSA Mutual Aid working to ensure no one goes hungry
As soon as the first pandemic lockdowns were announced, they sprang into action, delivering food, medications, picking up mail and just about anything else needed by those who were immune-compromised, elderly or simply in need. They also provided subsidized and/or free food for people who were struggling with food insecurity. That work has continued, and they are out every week to ensure that people who need food in Chico don't go hungry.
Chico mom is ensuring that people have access to food
“I was shocked at the huge need of food and supplies our unhoused community faced. I was admittedly naïve in thinking people were being adequately provided food in our community.”

…Working to ensure that people in our community don’t die from lack of access to food and water is not enabling. It doesn’t “pull them back to the city.” It’s basic human decency and there is no excuse for withholding these basic needs from people.
