A quick update on the astonishing amount of money the right-wing conservative PAC has already poured into the Chico City Council election. So far they have spent well over $237,000. Why does this matter?

During the last Chico City Council election, the largest PAC, also conservative, spent approximately $36,000 during the whole election cycle. Given that candidates for city council cannot accept individual donations over $500, this money can have an incredible impact on fair elections, and the spending as of now is over 3 times the entire amount spent supporting all candidates in the previous election.

Heck, they have now spent twice as much on one candidate, Kami Denlay (including what they spent in hit pieces against her opposition), than was spent by a PAC on all candidates in the 2018 election, and the PAC still has money in their coffers to influence the outcome of this election.

  • They have spent $14,909 on hit pieces about Ann Schwab

  • They have spent $10,694 on hit pieces about Randall Stone

  • They have spent $8,093 on hit pieces about Rich Ober

  • They have spent $8,541 on hit pieces about Lauren Kohler

  • They have spent $6,255 on fake โ€œsupportโ€ mailers for Steven Breedlove, with the intention of diluting progressive votes in District 3. Their latest filing now shows him as โ€œOppose.โ€ This after they filed as โ€œSupportโ€ previously.

This is in addition to the tens of thousands dollars they spent promoting the PAC itself in the past year and paying outside political consultants to plan strategy, which doesnโ€™t have to be itemized in the same way.

You can review their filings here.
