6 picnic tables. Exposed asphalt 6 miles from town. No way to store property securely. No way to clean yourself or your clothing. In the middle of a fire danger zone.
Up to 571 people can be confined here - and that is the intention of the city. It looks like an internment camp because that's what it is.
With Chico Mayor Andrew Coolidge saying the city is doing the minimum it can to get the judge to drop the suit against the city (for violating the human rights of the homeless), and Sean Morgan responding to concerns with "what do they want, a Ferris wheel?" city leadership is cruelly out of touch with reality.
How about the judge admonishing the city to โeducate citizens",โ but instead they continue to pander to the angry people that elected them, refusing to call it a campground. No, itโs a โ24-hour resting site.โ ๐ This council wonโt get serious, and they see no reason to treat us as anything other than idiots.
The County has also said they will not support this site.
There is much more to the story, but the Chico News & Review has done a deeper a dive - read all about it here.
As well, if you are interested in reviewing, here is the plaintiffs supplemental brief regarding the airport site.
