Only One Good Nominee for City Council Appointment

Of the 3 applicants nominated for the at-large City Council seat (make that all nominees for either seat), Bryce Goldstein’s knowledge and vision stand out. Her application and City Council speech were the only ones to outline a concrete plan for Chico’s growth into a sustainable, welcoming community where everybody can afford to live.

Ms. Goldstein currently serves on the City of Chico Planning Commission and works for Caltrans as a Transportation Planner. She grew up in Redding and graduated from Humboldt State University in 2016 with a bachelor’s in Environmental Science. She has lived in Chico for five years, but began spending time here in 2009 when her older sister started attending Chico State. In addition, she is very involved in the community, as a longtime volunteer with local shelter and environmental nonprofits.

Like many council applicants, Ms. Goldstein emphasizes the need for shelter and housing in our community. What sets her apart from the rest is that she proposes tangible policy changes that will make it easier to construct affordable and missing-middle housing, and she addresses climate change and the need to house our neighbors during times of crisis including wildfires. She also brings her transportation planning experience into her vision for a safer and more efficient multimodal transportation network, and proposes election reforms such as ranked-choice voting and a bipartisan redistricting commission.

It’s notable that as fires rage around the Valley, unprecedented heatwaves continue unabated, and Big Chico Creek has run dry on the Chico State Campus, Ms. Goldstein was the ONLY candidate to mention climate change and sustainability.

Chico needs fresh perspectives and rational, pragmatic solutions; Bryce Goldstein is the only remaining candidate that brings those things to the table.

Please take a moment to let the council know you support Bryce Goldstein - and to remind them we are still awaiting an investigation into how long Kami Denlay was living in Red Bluff and whether voter fraud was committed.
