It’s time to get this recall done
The year is winding down and we’re all feeling a bit worn out…but we need all hands on deck if we want a different Chico in 2022.
𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲: 𝐆𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐞
Let the spin begin. Now that a federal judge has forced the Chico City Council to comply with the law, the right-wing PAC is springing into action to attempt to rehabilitate their crew. Of course, what they are saying is again not true…
Amazing people of Chico: Chico DSA Mutual Aid working to ensure no one goes hungry
As soon as the first pandemic lockdowns were announced, they sprang into action, delivering food, medications, picking up mail and just about anything else needed by those who were immune-compromised, elderly or simply in need. They also provided subsidized and/or free food for people who were struggling with food insecurity. That work has continued, and they are out every week to ensure that people who need food in Chico don't go hungry.
Only One Good Nominee for City Council Appointment
Of the 3 applicants nominated for the at-large City Council seat (make that all nominees for either seat), Bryce Goldstein’s knowledge and vision stand out. Her application and City Council speech were the only ones to outline a concrete plan for Chico’s growth into a sustainable, welcoming community where everybody can afford to live…
Chico Shelter Crisis Declaration Renewal Part 2

I am writing you today to again advocate for the renewal of the Shelter Crisis Declaration. If you read no further, know this: to fail to renew the shelter crisis declaration is to expose the city to unnecessary liability at the exact time when we most need that protection. It would be ethically and fiscally irresponsible.
Evicted Camp Fire Survivor Vindicated in Court, City Attorney Doesn’t Bother to Show Up, Again
𝐖𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬: Larry D. Halstead is a campfire survivor who was homeless, camping in the park, and evicted during the winter sweeps, then cited when he refused to go. The charges against him have finally been dropped! We could not be more thrilled to see Larry vindicated. ❤️ 💪 Read more about Larry's story …

Fake Environmental “Steward” Threatening to Close Sycamore Pool (One Mile) to Swimming, for Good.
We issued a warning back in May about Rob Berry’s latest scheme to line his pockets, the hilariously misnomered “Chico Stewards for Parks and Waterways.”
As expected, it has begun. Rob partnered with the Redding law firm he previously used to help him harass the city and local service providers with frivolous lawsuits to send a series of threats to the council.
The rambling, often silly, hysteria-filled 13-page attack presents a plethora of misinformation, much of it wildly, egregiously misleading. We may discuss other parts of the letter later, but today our focus is on the portion calling for the closure of the Sycamore Pool.
Memorial to the Homeless Who Have Died in Chico in the Last Year
Faith Lutheran Church has installed a tribute to local members of the homeless community who’ve died in the last year without housing. The installation can be seen at 667 East First Avenue. The tribute will remain in place for one week starting May 9, 2021 and then rotate to another local church. 💔

A CLIMATE DYSTOPIA IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
“Even in California, where the lack of affordable housing has reached epidemic levels in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Chico — an outdoorsy college town — stands out for the ruthlessness with which its city government and police have turned on unhoused residents...

During the Chico City Council closed session meeting Monday night to discuss the homeless evictions lawsuit against the city, a decision was made to create an Ad Hoc Committee and invite groups of stakeholders to give input and look at potential solutions.
