We'll give the "safety" PAC one thing; they never weary of repeating the same lies, no matter how tired and disproven. Like QAnon minions everywhere, the theory of local extremists seems to be, "keep repeating the lies until people believe them."

BCFAC is a Facebook group run by a handful of people that literally spend their entire waking hours with the police scanner running, the calls and reports of crimes the entire background of their lives. Years of living this way has fed intense fear and paranoia. While the page sometimes just reports the actual call details as they come in (without meaningful context), they just as often extrapolate about the details, filling in with wild fantasies about the horrors and dangers of the city we live in. Anyone who points out their errors is blocked from the page, and that's fine of course, it's a private page, but Who's their next "source" for mindless, paranoid gossip, Kim Kardashian?

The police arresting someone (or several someones) from out of town literally says nothing about whether folks living unsheltered on our streets are from Chico or not. It means that the arrested individual was from out of town. If anything, it demonstrates that the homeless in our community, the majority of whom lived here when they became homeless, didn't commit those crimes.

A study was done on the criminalization effect of Sit/Lie on Chico crime and it clearly demonstrated an increase of crime around peoples homes. No surprise that that if you give people no place to go and make desperate people even more desperate, you see an increase in crime.

Meanwhile, a study that came out last month showed that crime did not go up, and in some cases actually went down, when Safe Space hosted low-barrier shelter in a neighborhood.

โ€ข We need a sanctioned tent camp.
โ€ข We need low-barrier shelter.
โ€ข We need the city to commit, along with county state and federal agencies, to supporting and implementing real solutions.
โ€ข We need solutions that won't get the city sued.
โ€ข We need solutions that wonโ€™t continue to costs thousands of dollars every week or two, all in the name of making peopleโ€™s lives miserable.
โ€ข We need solutions that wonโ€™t drive the next crime wave by pushing people into the Avenues, the neighborhoods and alleys, in search of something to help them make it through the night.
