Call to Action: Make Your Voice Heard

The City of Chico has created a survey to gather input from the public regarding the Homeless Opportunities Plan. Please take a moment to weigh in, and help prioritize the creation of sanctioned camping, additional shelter beds, and tiny homes, all of which are desperately needed.

Sanctioned camping is particularly important, as it could be implemented immediately, and would provide space(s) for those who are living in the parks and waterways. This is critical as there are literally no legal places to camp in city limits at this time. It's a swift and humane short-term solution for those experiencing homelessness, as well as a chance to alleviate some of the frustration the community is experiencing around camping in the parks. If we can reduce the pressure-cooker atmosphere around camping, we may have an opportunity to have better conversations as a community.

Another priority that can move the community forward swiftly is for the city to provide resources to support outreach and engagement to those experiencing homelessness. Beyond having safe and legal places to stay, outreach and engagement are critical to moving people out of homelessness for the long term.

You can review the entire plan here.
